Why did Michael Jackson have his skin whitened?
« on: October 21, 2011, 05:14:37 am »
Michael had a skin condition called Vitiligo. This is when the melanin (what produces your skin's natural color) is destroyed, therefore leaving the skin a very pale white. The white patches on Michael were easy to cover with good makeup in the beginning, but as they started getting larger and more prominent, it became easier to cover his remaining dark skin with lighter makeup, than being completely covered in dark makeup to cover the lighter skin. This condition is also why Michael always had an umbrella with him on sunny days. Melanin, as i mentioned earlier, is what creates your skin's color and protects your skin from the sun (that's why you tan.) When you have little to no melanin, your skin is extremely susceptible to severe sun burns even from weak sun.

Leave the man alone. He never "bleached" his skin and always spoke nothing but good things about his race. ♥♥
